Kane Maxwell

Matrix Geoscience

Kane Maxwell is the Director of Matrix Geoscience; a geoscience and data analytics consultancy that specialises in using machine learning for exploration, data analysis and resource estimation. Kane began his geological career in 2007 graduating with a Bachelor of Science from QUT and later a Masters of Economic Geology from UTAS. Firstly, he began working for a Brisbane-based copper and gold exploration company, then transitioned into coal working for BHP and later Peabody. At Peabody, he advanced through the ranks to become Resource Manager and then eventually Geoscience Analytics Manager; where he was able to focus on delivering innovative solutions to complex geological challenges. Kane also holds a Graduate Diploma in Data Science from the University of South Australia, is fluent in multiple programming languages, and is in his final year of his PhD with UQ studying the applications of machine learning techniques to coal geology. He is an AusIMM CP and has published multiple papers on machine learning uses in the coal industry. His dislikes include public speaking and avocado.
