Dr Andrew Kettle is a Senior Research Leader (Chemistry) at Mining3, a mining innovation company. He holds a PhD from the University of Queensland, and since 2016, he has performed research into non-Ammonium Nitrate-based bulk mining explosives, specifically hydrogen peroxide-based explosives, which has included design and detonation tests of a NOx-free explosive for mining, funded by ACARP. During the period of 2018-2022 he designed and tested a novel emulsion-style hydrogen peroxide-based formulation. Currently, the research program is conducting field trials in mining operations for pre-commercialisation of a bulk nitrate-free explosive. Further, the 'Mining with Water' approach, first proposed in 2021, is a mining system that may contribute to decarbonisation of explosives in the Mining Industry.
